Description

In this class, participants will learn to create a vibrant textile Cooktown orchid, from a collage of various fabrics. Here’s a quick overview of the steps

– Students will select a range of fabrics in different textures and shades, focusing on creating depth and dimension. Instruction will cover how to mix prints, solids, and textured fabrics to mimic the organic structure of an orchid.

– Using the selected fabrics, students will cut and arrange the pieces to build up the petals and structure of the orchid. We’ll adhere these piece on the base fabric, then cut out and place onto the background in the right place and using stabiliser all this will be placed in the hoop ready for free motion thread sketching and putting in the details of the Orchids.

– After completing the thread sketching, you’ll layer the quilt with batting and backing. You’ll learn free-motion quilting techniques to add texture and bring the orchid to life, emphasizing its form.

– Instead of traditional binding, we’ll explore alternative methods such as facing the quilt or using a decorative edge finish like using yarn creative and modern touch.
